Not Just a Walk in the Park

Completely volunteer based, our teams operate year-round.

Mission Statement

In the interest of maintaining clean, safe public areas in our community, the AVGP dogs and their handlers actively and responsibly patrol designated areas.

Responsible Dog Handling

We understand that the parks and fields patrolled are meant for people first and are not “dog parks.” It is a privilege to bring dogs to these areas.

Selection Process

Our teams are volunteers from Allendale who must pass a field test. All breeds, mixes, ages, and sizes are welcome!

Check out the field test here.

Presence

While many of our teams actively chase geese, others contribute by preventing geese from landing with their mere presence. Dogs on our teams range from a Mini Poodle to Great Pyrenees mixes – they all do their part!

Prospective Handler Self-Test

  • Am I willing to perform a service for the community of Allendale?
  • Do I consider myself a responsible dog owner?
  • Do I understand that the parks patrolled are intended for use by people first (i.e. they are not “dog parks”)?
  • Can I reliably recall and control my dog off-leash even when distractions are present?

If you answered “yes” to all of the questions above, you’re ready to apply!
